According to the followers of the The Founding Dragons pantheon and the worshippers of Iskir, the Lightbearer, this is because Iskir takes a single day of rest from their neverending task of carrying the sun.
Whatever the true reason might be, it is undeniable that for one full day, on a fixed cycle, the sun does not rise.
Many people spend the day in celebration, lighting the skies with lanterns and fireworks instead. While others spend it in solemn prayer to wish good fortune upon Iskir and the strength to continue their task.
