The Long Winter Era

Era beginning/end

The Long Winter, when Argus' orbit around its star had been disrupted into a highly eliptical orbit, slowing its rotation and causing a neverending winter.

Survival was the only goal for most people during this time. They would huddle in groups in whatever shelter they could find, trying to conserve their resources as much as possible. Food was scarce, so hunting other sentients and fungi/insects living in caves became the main substenance. But even these were difficult as most animals had fled or died out due to the extreme cold and lack of light.   In addition to the physical hardships, the people had to deal with the mental and emotional toll of living in such harsh conditions for so long. Many succumbed to despair and hopelessness, feeling that there was no end in sight to their suffering.   However, there were also those who refused to give up. These individuals banded together to form communities and worked tirelessly to ensure their survival. They developed new methods of finding food, and some even found ways to farm despite the frozen conditions.   In the Underdark, underground cities were built, where people could live and work in relative warmth and safety, but it was only a matter of time until Nepturos turned its attention to the Underdark. These cities were often connected by tunnels that allowed people to move between them without having to venture out into the cold.   Any and all history was erased. People could only pass down knowledge via oral teachings. Numerous native species of Argos went extinct during this era. No one truely knows what could have been achieved had the Elemental Lords and their wars had not decimated the world.
