It seemed like the best place that could be found for them, the closest thing to the surface they could reach. With that in mind, it made sense to move them down there, with the permission of the monsters living there, and an explanation of why it was important not to disturb their bones and to take care of them. Even though the graves were empty, the survivors still came to pray to their friends at the burned cave; this was where the shrine was placed, and this was where the eulogy was. This did not mean that they neglected to visit the graves, for still they went every week to visit them. That was where they talked, the shrine was where they prayed. Though by now they knew that their lives were much longer than they should be, they still carved a last explanatory message in the wall, just in case that they did perish.
