In the city of Duodecim, in a down trodden house, a gnomish family of eight enjoy the little pocket of time they have together in a home largely built up by constant motion. The Gathys, ever the busy bodies, are an example of a perfect family. With delicate hands the mother, Olivia, tends to the scratches her oldest son, Adrian, has sustained due to hiding in the splinter filled cabinet after being constant reprimanding; all the while, the second oldest son, Barnabus, pretends to be one of the many creatures of myth his mother tells him of right before his naps. He is fearsome in his stance, his arms raised above his head to dangle like claws, and his teeth barred to contort his mouth into the likeness of a snarl. A giggling squeal emanates from youngest daughter, Coretta, as Barnabus chases her around the kitchen table.
