Mundane Wiz Biz

-== New Scene: 2 Days before the Light==- Roya sits as a desk scribbling vigorously on a thick sheet of paper. She keeps at this for over an hour before she finally throws her head back almost tiping the wooden chair she sits in. "Aggghhh, so much writing and reading. I haven't had to do this much research since I was a scribe for The Hearts!" Looking to gabe quietly working not looking up at her outburst "I guess I'm a bit out of practice. Gabe can you come take a look at this idea list I made?"   With a bit of a stumble in his steps, Gabriel stands up. It takes him a bit longer than usual to move a chair over to Roya but eventually the job is done. "What kind of idea list are we talking about," he inquires as he hops up into the chair and looks over at the thick sheet of paper. Yorkie pops up at the top of Gabriel's head like a dog sticking their head up in a field of grass.   Roya grimaces as she turns and meets the Gnomes eyes. Embarrassed "oh... Sorry Gabe. I keep forgetting that about your injuries I just get so excited. Next time I ask you to come over just ignore me. That will snap me back into reality. Anyway.." turning back to her pages and handing the pile of papers to Gabe. "they might be a bit out of order but here is the overall gist. Ever since I came out of that gate I've felt more uneasy the usual. Like I'm being watch more then any other time in my life. What you have in your hand is a strategy for our well-being and security." Turning back to her desk she takes a second pile of slightly less wrinkled papers and sets those in front of her. The thought occurs to her to hand the pile to Gabe but he already has his hand full. " This is a stack of spells that are mentioned in the texts that we were able to find around town. I've highlighted magics that are of particular interest to our safety and my talents." She turns back to have his response as she catches her breath   Gabe looks at the plans and the list of spells, taking a few minutes to read over both. The benefits of being a speed reader. After his analysis, he leans back in his chair to digest the knowledge.   “I think the plans are good, but I don’t think it’s good to have them. The world is too chaotic to have a plan for everything. I think you need to make the strategy much more broad in its scope, but also take into account that not everyone is gonna follow it. There might be a few of us right now, but what if more people starting entering the Gate and living?”   “As for the spells, you don’t have any complaints from me,” he says with a thoughtful stare into the ceiling,” I actually have a theory about magic. And speaking of which, where did you get taught magic? Was when it when you were a scribe for The Hearts? What are they some type of guild like the Followers of Oghma?”   Waiting patiently as Gabe reads Roya quietly hums a tone from her childhood.   When Gabe looks up and gives talks about the plans not being needed she frowns a bit. Letting him finish before she responds "I guess you do have a point. Laws and plans have no meaning with out the authority to Inforce them." Shuffling a bit in her chair "at the very least I think it helped me get some of my thoughts down on paper and ground myself to this new situation." she stands up from her chair and starts wonders around the small back room they are working in "well the theory and craft of the arcane arts were taught to me from a very young age by The Hearts. very perceptive of you. After meeting a few followers of Oghma in my travels they do share some similarities. However, they also differ. I guess the best way to describe them is as collectors." Plausing   "Collectors of the arcane. And yours truly" bowing sarcastically " is their most valuable failure. A hard working young mage that ended choosing her specialty based on what the street storytellers used to get the most coin."   "Well if you're what a group of arcane collectors call a failure then they're success must be a baby. You've been apart of a town destroying event and lived. I'd say that's pretty good for a failure," jokes the little gnome as he notes the sarcastic bow and pulls out his own spell book, flipping to the little checklist he has. "If your storytellers used magic to perform their shows then I'd love to visit that city. In Lower Crystallis most stories you hear from the inmates beside you or the other drunks on the street. By the Nine Hells, you can hear a story just about anywhere that's not being a guard's mouth. Now THAT would be a miracle if you could get one of those guys to speak to you. Bonus points if they speak to you like an actual person..."   Looking to to Gabe blushing a bit as she starts to ramble a bit "What is does one have to do to get up to upper Crystallis? I've only heard there is a difference between the upper and lower. I'd love to visit it one day. "   Gabriel shakes his head and grumbles, a hard, teeth grating mish mash of his vocal chords rebelling against the mention of Upper Crystallis. "The difference goes much deeper than just space. Upper class to the lower class. Trust me Roya, if you go up there you won't like what you see below the surface. There are some good people up there but to reach them is a LOT harder than it seems..."   He sighs at his own bias and shakes his head before responding," Upper Crystallis is home to the best magic casters in the world and, if you've got the coin, you can get into the Academy and study along with them. I'll be rooting for you from the ground."   Smiling. "I appreciate your kind words Gabe. It sounds like a complex place." Tuning away "anyways like I was saying. I feel that the spells you have in your hand are essential for out continued peace of mind. Now I need to figure out how to acquire the standard scrolls" trailing off   "Unless you're hiding some lost souls somewhere, I think the elves is your only option," the boy suggests," I'll tag along with you whenever you decide to go. I want to get an extra spell book in case this one gets destroyed." He holds up his raggedy old spell book that barely keeps together all of the loose pages inside of it.   Still facing away Royas eyebrows rasie as Gabe's words catch her off guard. He can know about the orb at the in my bag can he? I keep that thing in a locked box at the bottom calming her racing thoughts Roya turns back to see the the torn up book. Raising a single eyebrow this time puzzled. "Isn't that what speel books are supposed to look like?" Without pause Roya goes into her bag and pulls out her spell book and holds it up. It had seen better days. The covers are made of what looks like thick driftwood. The pages clearly were of thick stock but unevenly cut and aged differently. The mess of pages are bound together by 3 robust but discolored steel rings. "When I was growing up I was always told a pristine spell book is a useless one. Our books are what keep us alive. It is as important as the house we live in or the water we drink."   "True," Gabriel admits though he doesn't seem to truly believe it himself," Though if this gets destroyed I'm out of luck." He hops out of his chair and gives Roya a friendly shoulder tap with his fist," Sometimes it's good to be a little prepared yeah?" He smiles nervously, hoping she gets what he's trying to reference.   Roya smiles and finally takes a seat next to Gabe. Placing a hand oh his shoulder. "Yeah it's walways nice to be prepared" then turns back to her desk and continues scribbling notes.
