Nethicite
A mineral harboring necrotic energy, nethicite is highly toxic to the touch with a number of military and economical applications. The only known deposit in Arhor'ha comes from the mines of Duodecim, which has contributed to its economic success. The mineral holds innately magical properties which allow it to transmute metallically into alloys that are safer to use in dwarven crafts.
Properties
Material Characteristics
A unit of nethicite is approximately the size of a golf ball in a jagged, quartz-like, formation. The mineral is naturally a deep purple and slowly fluxates between shades as light as lilac and as dark as tar.
Physical & Chemical Properties
As a magical mineral, Nethicite is closest to a quartz in a resting property. It can be transmuted into metal before being combined as an alloy with other metals, often iron. Rare cases have shown its use as an organic property.
Compounds
Nethicite is seen as a singular element with magical properties. It is not naturally magnetic, but often put in as an alloy to create a magnetic result.
Geology & Geography
The material is found in the mines of Duodecim in greatest known quantities. Rumors have it there are other deposits deep beneath Arhor'ha, but none have confirmed them.
Life & Expiration
Nethicite remains stable once removed, but it constantly feeds on life energy (radiant energy) as an endo/exothermic relationship of the two forces.
History & Usage
History
The use of nethicite has been tolerated in small doses. None object that it is powerful, capable of constructing arcane canons or powerful axe blades via converting it into an alloy. Over time it became part of an arms race as one of the few resources that was not exhaustable, such as Crystallis Crystals.
Discovery
Nethicite was first discovered by the founding twelve families of Duodecim. Its regulation became the foundation of the city and industry.
Everyday use
Nethicite is not a household commodity.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Nethicite is received well in Freeport and Duodecim.
Type
Metamaterial
Odor
Nethicite smells vaguely sour like acid and sweet like a citrus fruit.
Taste
Tasting nethicite has never been documented as it would quickly kill the person putting it on their tongue.
Color
The mineral is naturally a deep purple and slowly fluxates between shades as light as lilac and as dark as tar.
Common State
Nethicite is almost always found in a solid form.
