Deadway Passage

In the southwestern part of the continent there is a large mountain range named Oceanic Peak that ends at the ocean on either side. Pass the Oceanic Peak mountain range is a peninsula out into the ocean. These peaks are very tall and rugged. There are many sudden drops, very sharp cliffs and swift rivers There is snow for most of the year except for about 5 weeks during the summer. There is only one pass over and across Oceanic Peak. This pass is called Deadway Passage. Deadway passage is the highest pathway on the continent. Every year there is at least one disaster story that has to do with the passage, passed along the southern parts of the continent. The ocean is a safer option however it takes a lot longer. So many opt for the quickest way through Deadway passage.   The biggest threat in the Ocean Peak is the storms that pass through. These storms can be simple rain storms or can be deadly disasters. Some of these are disasters are sudden blizzards, thunderstorms with huge hailstones, windstorms that can sweep one off their feet and off a cliff. Only the Yale Alora or Ilyel Alora elves can navigate quickly and safely through the Deadway passage. The Yele Alora live on once side of the Oceanic Peak, while the Ilyel Alora live on the other side. Both live in a city with the same name, that sits at the beginning or end of Deadway passage. They are able to understand the weather patterns and know the best times to travel. They also know the quickest route through the Deadway passage. Even though with all this knowledge and willingness to lead people through Deadway passage, several chose not take a guide. Deciding to brave it on their own. A good portion of them make it across, albeit they take a week with injuries at the least, or deaths. Whereas the elves take three days, all safe. There are also times when the Ilyel or Yele forbid travel saying it is to dangerous. A few ignore these warnings and try anyway, they end up dead. There bodies sometimes being found by future travelers, if found at all.
