Shinny Ambrosia
The Shinny Ambrosia has many uses both magical, medical, and cultural. Shinny Ambrosia grows along the rim of the Ceelkayo wild. It almost acts like a barrier plant as the Ceelkayo wild plant and animals do not cross this plant. Shinny Ambrosia is a creeping vine that had large wide leaves that are mostly green with a red overtone and one long purple strip down the middle. Shinny Ambrosia blooms for five months in the spring every two years. The flowers are large bright yellow or orange. People have tried to cultivate Shinny Ambrosia but to no luck, it seems to only grow next to the Ceelkayo Wild. Shinny Ambrosia has two ways of reproducing. First is to send suckers into the ground that then pop up several feet away creating a new plant. Next is after the flowers bloom and are pollinated by the wind and small birds. Once pollinated medium-sized nuts grow. The nuts are inedible. The whole plant is toxic to almost all insects, however, the Cobalt-scaled bunny and a few other animals do occasionally eats it.
The whole plant is used in different manners and different applications. The nut while inedible is grounded into dust which is then used in polishing metal or stones. The flowers are dried and ground down and used as a pigment. The fresh flowers are boiled and used to assist in the fermentation of pickles. The leaves have two uses, one is made into a pouch along with vines which makes a waterproofed pouch. Two the leaves are ripped or cut into different magical potions. Yes, how the leaves are processed does matter in the potion. The vines are made into very strong ropes.
The settlements around the Ceelkayo Wild also responsibly harvest and export the products. It wasn’t always this way though there was a village that was settled closer to the Ceelkayo wild and their only export was the products from the Shinny Ambrosia. The people of the village harvested all the Shinny Ambrosia along the edge of the Ceelkayo Wild, close to the village. During the next several months odd things started happening. Many villagers saw some very strange animals people went missing and lastly, the Ceelkayo Wild extended and encompassed the village. It was only stopped as one family who lived on the edge away from the Ceelkayo Wild planted a bunch of Shinny Ambrosia in their backyard. This spread and created another line. However, the village behind them had been destroyed and become a part of the Ceelkayo Wild. This tale was told to all the other towns, villages, and settlements in the area. They all now make sure to not over-harvest Shinny Ambrosia.
oooh! That is definitely a cautionary tale about over harvesting this plant!
