Undersea Tribes
"I rule an entire kingdom just below the surface. It's beauty, and mine, are unmatched throughout your puny empire." - Queen Talullah
During the Cataclysm, one third of the Ancient rebelled against the Creator. Their reasoning ranged from wanting to seize power to thinking the realms would be better off modeled after them. Among these rebellious Ancients, Herod, Ancient of the Deep, had a vast cult of both humanoids and other creatures. When the war was finally brought to an end and Herod became a Fallen, he sank into the depths of the Cosmic Sea, the massive space in between realms. Furious and vengeful at his defeat, he cursed his followers, blaming them for his failure during the Cataclysm. Instead of residing on land like most of the mortal races, they were confined to the oceans of their world, becoming more animal-like in appearance and mannerism. There are many who believe the undersea folk in their previous forms were mainly comprised of elves. Presently, the undersea people of Arkos, while once residing in great oceanic kingdoms in the past, are divided into four separate tribes.
Safran: Have managed to evolve out of their fish-like appearance, closely resemble humans, can breathe in and out of water.
Merfolk: Gills, fins, and tails are their trademarks. Intelligent, curious, yet wary of beings from the surface.
Brine: Though not savages, the Brine are more primal and untrustworthy of the other tribes. Can be characterized by claws, hard shells, rough skin and dorsal fins.
Trench: Where once there might have been intelligence and beauty, the “people” of the trench have devolved into horrific monstrosities, usually only concerned about their next meal.
