The Eternal Slumber

The Gods Decision

During the second age the giants and dragons fought against themselves and each other. From the first day of the second age the giants and dragons battled. It is told that the giant Grevalyn killed two dragons she came across on the first day of the second age. There is a dwarven song called the "Grevalyns Bashing" that tells that tale. The dragons and their riders fought against each other, wild dragons, and the giants. Their Kingdoms waging wars that would shape the second age third age. Some riders and their dragons survived the second creation such as the dragon Xerkot and his Rider Direoclies. Who waged war against all of Ardarock from their flaming mountain range named after the dragon Xerkot. While dragons such as Moorepelko attacked both the south Kingdoms of Ardarock and Aldarock. Over the first nine hundred years of the second age the wars became so devastating that the many of the Gods feared the world would be destroyed again. In an attempt to stop this destruction a group of Gods banded together. With their combined strength they put the Giants and Dragons into an eternal rest. A coma ment to last forever. This became known as the Eternal Slumber and it happened in the year nineteen ninety eight. Some dragons and giants fell on their subjects as they were put to sleep. Crushing them or their homes, while others never woke from their current sleep. It is thought many dragons still sleep in their lairs or died as they fell from the sky as they fell asleep mid flight. Some giants are found to be asleep in a cave or a river, all giants are brought to what are known as the giant crypts. A place for each giant to rest during their Eternal Slumber, there are Giants Crypts in Ironcrane, Castle Frayn, Craigden and Segrande. The group of Gods that caused the second creation are known as the Gods of Olympus and they work together still in the third age to help govern and protect the overworld.

When the Giants and Dragons fell into their eternal slumber, some fell fast then others. Those strong enough to resist the Gods magic used the bits their last of time awake for many ways. Some gave final orders to their disciples and followers, others spent time with their family or bestowed wisdom on those around them. The Kingdoms of the dragons and giants who now sleep are either ruled by their followers or have fallen to ruin. The Blue dwarf Kingdoms of Craigden and Ironcrane, and Beuw are each former giant ruled Kingdoms. While the High Elf Kingdoms in Aldarock are all ruled by former dragon riders or their kin. Threw out the rest of the second age and most of the third age the Gods magic has kept all the dragons and giants asleep. Not a dragon egg had hatched or a giant rolled over in their sleep until the late third age. Five hundred or more years ago tales of dragons flying over the island Echor and the isles of Poh and around this time is when Hill Giants began to roam the forests and Mountains of Ardarock and the Sedpass woods as well. Along with the dwarves who watch the slumbering giants reporting hearing the snoring of giants and tell of them turning over in their sleep or even talking. The lost lairs of dragons and giants are told to be home to lost treasure and forgotten knowledge of magic and the past. Some of lairs are not lost, the castle of the storm King Beuw is a massive stone fortress. After the storm King fell to sleep parts of the interior were built into with wood and now the Beuw Council live in the castle along with their court and workers. Or the Tower of Xerkot a massive black stone building sitting on an island in the north part of the Beuw Lake. Since the Gods put the Giants and Dragons to rest the world has aged and changed. New Kings and Kingdoms rule the land and they interact in a connected way that was thought to be impossible when the Dragons and giants ruled.

The resting place for Giants and Dragons

Built by the Dwarves to hold the Giants as slept Giants crypts as massive halls of stone that go deep under group. Each hall holds giants from the second age who survived falling into their eternal slumber. After the towns and cities moved their giants to one of the Crypts. The only giants to be added to the crypts are those who are found asleep. For a time in the early second age many giants were found and transported to the giants crypts. However in the third age the sleeping giants have been found in great scarcity, the last one to be found was in brothers mountains and was brought to Segrande in Mytail. This was in the year four thousand and seven and was over six hundred years ago. The Dragons have no crypt where they are all brought to. Instead many are thought to have perished as they fell from the sky, even great dragons such as Xerkot and Moorepelko are expected to have died if they fell asleep while flying. For Xerkot it is known he died after he and his Rider were seen falling from the sky by the people of the Dwarven plains. Other dragons are thought to be asleep in their lairs or somewhere deep in mountain ranges. The skies above ocean between Echor and Aldarock are told to be roamed by dragons since the year four thousand. However no dragon has been killed or captured to prove such a thing. Stories are told that a while a dragon if great power sleeps their magic seeps into their dreams. These dreams search out willing subjects and bend those subjects to the dragons will. These subjects do will help protect a sleeping dragon and may even assist them in the shedding their scales. Some orcs tribes in Xerkots range claim to serve the dragon Xerkot although this is thought to be the tribes using Xerkots name as a show of power. As when Xerkot was known to allow only the most brutal and war driven tribes to serve him.
