The Spire

A brilliant lone tower rises above the surrounding cityscape. Shining as the beacon of a light house. Stones textured to look like a dragon's hide sparkle with an intense beauty as if dusted by stars. Surrounding the base of the monolithic structure as a collection of buildings serving as temples to various deities. With the largest, serving as the base of the Spire, devoted to the glory of Bahamut - God of Justice.

Purpose / Function

Completed upon the 50th anniversary of Rhaelion's Last Stand the Spire serves as a temple primarily to Bahamut. Over time smaller temples were created for other gods brought by the refugees during the Age of Loss. This is known to be the most significant religious site for followers of Bahamut and many of the Arokath people. Some say the god himself sometimes comes to rest and speak with the high priest at its zenith.

Design

The Spire itself is a round tower that stands just over 100 ft tall with a 20 ft outside diameter base. Gradually tapering to a point at its peak. Inside a stairwell leads 70 ft up to a small South West facing one windowed chamber. Within the 5 ft diameter chamber resides a small shrine to Bahamut. Only the high priest is allowed to enter this room as it is considered to be the place where the god rests.   The temple itself is a larger circular building built into the side of the Spire about 300 feet in diameter. Its sanctuary is a dome ceilinged room with an altar to Bahamut in focal point. Rimmed around the base of the dome are a series of platinum tinted lenses that focus outside light to the alter illuminating it. Whether by the sun, the moon Ithil, torches from the city, or starlight, the altar is always the brightest place in the room. Surrounding the altar is an open marbled floor leaving room for people to sit, commune, or discuss.

Sensory & Appearance

An illuminated altar holding a statue of a platinum dragon holding a scales with his tail above his head. The smell of metal hangs in the air.
