Sentinels of Alcheran
The world of Arodan is blessed with the magic of Hirblun, supplied by the realm of Alcheran and its gods. But due to the Aberrants corrupting certain forms of Hirblun, this magic is not entirely safe. Excessive usage of Hirblun, thanks to Hirblun Healers for example, could potentially open up Alcheran for the Aberrants to invade.
In 260 Third Era, after Per Tygari was slain by the Undead Scourge Purteragtrex during the final battle at Mount Vorale, his daughter Yurei Tygari was not only able to severly wound the dragon, but she founded the Sentinels of Alcheran with the remaining soldiers in the aftermath of the battle. They began to arm themselves to not only combat the Aberrants and their evil creations, but to prevent them from invading altogether. Guided by the beliefs of Per, these Sentinels of Alcheran fiercely protect the borders of the world by prosecuting any offender of their anti-magic laws.
Structure
The Sentinels largely work without a hierarchy, because each member has the same duty: protect the Trails. They treat each other with the same level of respect.
Nevertheless, there is still a leader present. The Upper Sentinel of the organization was the founder, and this rank is passed down by bloodline.
Public Agenda
The Sentinels firmly believe in their anti-Hirblun laws and severely denounce any Hirblun mage that tries to escape these laws.
They think they are acting from the will of Per Tygari's wishes, not by what the people of Arodan want. So even though they enjoy mass support from some governments in the world, including the Lenamarian Empire, the Sentinels choose not to align themselves with any geopolitical system.
History
In the period 260-350, the Sentinels started out as a group of vigilantes somewhere in the northeast of the old country Hearthmond, reacting to the presence of a rather careless Hirblun Healer. Quickly dispatching of the Healer, they were chased out of the country by an angry mob, which only solidified their beliefs.
After some years of traveling around Vordyn, the Sentinels responded to a calamity situation in the town of Lenamar in the year 329 AT, which was the epicentre of a reckless healing session with Hirblun, causing a small invasion of Undeads. The Sentinels, which had grown considerably in the years they were traveling, arrested and executed almost every mage present. They also managed to completely stop the invasion, gaining more support from Lenamar.
The Sentinels quickly gained huge support from the Lenamarian leaders for their actions and code. The Sentinels were hired by them to hunt Hirblun Healers across the lands, and this caused a severe decline of people who practiced this form of Hirblun. Indirectly, they helped the Lenamarians to grow significantly as a kingdom. After realizing this, the Sentinels ended their bond with the Lenamarians and denounced any subsequent potential bond with a government.
Yurei died in 343, and the next High Sentinel was less opposed to governmental bonds than the Drokzulian battle master.
In 458, The Lenamarian Empire was finally established with the The Treaty of Huntenmark and their anti-Hirblun law was enacted throughout the entire continent of Vordyn. They then sought to incorporate the Sentinels into their inquisition forces, as the Sentinels became incredibly powerful. But even though their relation was friendlier than before, the Sentinels continued to distrust the Lenamarians and refused. After many years of trying, the Lenamarians infiltrated the Sentinels and began spreading discord and distrust amongst the members. In the year 471, the Iron Trail Uprising happened, an event that caused a power shift in the organization.
The Sentinels now enforce the same laws as the Empire, hunting down any Hirblun Mage instead of only the misusers.
The year is now 514. The Sentinels are ruthless inquisitors that have helped the Empire tremendously in eradicating the use of Hirblun. Now that Vordyn has begun setting their eyes on the other Le'Hare Islands, Myarian and Helman might no longer be free of Lenamarian influence..
