Raimund Abney

Raimund was one of the last apprentices to Vaughn Skylar before he left with his wife, Anabelle. Raimund was an incredibly gifted student, though he resented Vaughn, believing that he could achieve far more than Vaughn had in his life if he had the gift of immortality. So, he killed Vaughn's son, Corben, and took the Amulet of the Ages for himself. He was careful to make Corben's death seem like an accident, an arcane experiement gone awry.

Despite his best efforts, however, Raimund was unable to understand how the Amulet worked, which infuriated him beyond belief. He took it as a personal front, believing that Vaughn somehow disabled the Amulet's abilities before handing it on to his son, keeping the secret of immortality to himself.

Because of his blind rage, and his continued belief that he was better than everyone else, Raimund sowed the seeds of war, spreading the idea that Wizards, as a whole, were far more capable and powerful than anyone else in the world, and, thus, that they deserved to rule over everyone else.

Although many disagreed with this viewpoint, the silent majority was a bit too silent, as it wasn't long before those who thought along the same lines as Raimund launched an attack on the Woods of Gigentia, a location of great importance to the Rangers. This would kickstart what ended up being a war that lasted a century, defining much of way the present-day world is run.

During the war, Raimund sold the Amulet to Maysin Blackwood, an artificer whose son, Colton, eventually discovered the Divine powers that can be harnessed through the Amulet.

Raimund did not end up surviving the war, and the loss of the most outspoken and influential leader of the power-hungry Wizards was one reason the war ended so easily when the Clerics and Paladins were created.
