Reapers

The Reapers are a subset of the Swiftguards, an elite faction within the group, who use more subtle means of solving problems. They are trained in a variety of methods of getting what they want, playing into each person's strengths. Some are taught how to convince those around them to do what they want and others are taught to do so through brute force.

Secrets

The Reapers are a secret and secretive organization. Their existence is considered an urban legend by most, and those who actually know of their influence in the world are either part of the organization, or live their lives in fear of the Reapers coming for them for what they know.

Recruitment

Reapers are recruited either directly from The Skylar Institute or from the Swiftguard, as many members of the Swiftguard would find great success as a Reaper, though the members of this faction are chosen quite carefully.   Members of this elite group must have the utmost confidence in their abilities, but must also be humble enough to receive help as they need it. Many Wizards are far too self-absorbed to meet these criteria, seeing themselves as exceedingly better than anyone around them. In fact, some of the targets of the Reapers are only targets because they learned of the Reapers at one point and believe that they should have been recruited, and make it a mission of theirs to put the Reapers down, which, of course, they can't have happening.   There is often a degree of nepotism in the recuitment for the Reapers, though it is well-earned. The Ghosts will typically train their children to become what they have worked their entire lives to become. The humility that has been engrained in the Ghosts for their whole lives allows them to train their children in the same way, with the knowledge that, if they do their training correctly, their children will become better than they could ever be.   The children of Ghosts often have tough childhoods, but they typically appreciate it by the time they reach adulthood, as they are nearly guaranteed lucrative posititions as a Reaper, and they will likely become Ghosts themselves, as time progresses.   Those recruited from outside one of the families must have shown great promise to be given such an opportunity. Any new recruits are watched closely by the Ghosts, ensuring that their members are indeed the most elite possible. Any sign of weakness must be extinguished immediately, or they will be removed.

Attrition from the Reapers

Being a Reaper is a dangerous line of work. Over the years, several Ghosts and Reapers have met their end on the job, though as a whole, members of this faction are able to keep themselves healthy throughout their time there. Because of this, the guild has developed a way for members to retire without fear of retaliation from the Reapers themselves, or from other groups using what former members know against the group.   Should a member wish to retire, any memory they have in service to the Reapers is wiped, replaced with whatever memories they may prefer (usually a peaceful life of research or travel). They are then either provided a job of their choice to work until they do not wish to any longer or, they simply live out the rest of their days doing whatever it is they wish. The clandestine operations they performed, there shouldn't be anyone in their lives who could know of their involvement in the Reapers other than other members, and they are trained to not interact with previous members unless absolutely necessary.   On occasion, members of the Reapers are also stripped of their rank within the organization. If this happens during their training, then they have spent little time within the organization, and so their memories made within the organization are stripped, and they are allowed to continue their life as it was before. However, if they committed an act that results in an expulsion far into their career, they are typically killed in a way to make it look like an accident. The Reapers have neither time nor patience to deal with those who are not the absolute best.
