Elysium and Dunia Uzi

"You and your people must protect what I have given you with all your being. You must use it to shield the world from the outsiders. This is your task and from it, you must never stray."

In Hostile Territory

In the midst of the most savage of places on the main continent of Arrhynsia and far from civilization, the Whispering Plains, hides a treasure that elves would prefer to forget for it was not given to them. The Whispering Plains is the home of a singular plant - and not just any plant, a tree, and not just any tree, the tree. The tree that is like no other, that reaches into the heavens. With a trunk that is as big around as a large village, that reaches as far as the eye can see, that is as white as the glow from a newborn elven daughter.   This is Elysium, the World Tree.

Legend of the Gods

There is no other, though the elves would prefer to believe that Yggsdrasil planted by Lameravis in the Echovad Forrest is the true World Tree. This is far from the truth. Yggsdrasil has many trunks and bears many children. There are those who believe the entire Echovad forrest is but offshoots of Yggsdrasil, and they are probably right. But Yggsdrasil is not the first, for she was borne from a branch stolen by Lameravis from Elysium which his sister Jiisho gave to the orcs.   Why the orcs, none know for certain, but the gift of Elysium was not given to just the orcish people, but to Yulasta for whom Jiisho had plans. She taught Yulasta a task, and gave her the skills and tools to accomplish the burden she laid on the clever orcish goddess, and Elysium was one of those tools.

Work of a Godess

Theologians, arcane mages and scholars have long known that Jiisho gave Yulasta the task of maintaining the weave, but little is said of how. With the recent death of Yulasta, orcish stories have come to light, stories of forays that the orcish godess took climbing up the trunk into the highest reaches of the World Tree. From there she would return with armfuls of glossy white fibers that seemed endlessly long. These she would comb and spin into impossibly thin thread which she kept on huge spools in her weaving room. The orcs said she called this thread her "Dunia Uzi" or "Uzi", and the tree itself she fondly called "Mti Maisha".   Yulasta spent many days at her loom, but none ever saw her work. The threads she used were so fine, that the cloth was invisible to the naked eye - or so ran the legends.

Beyond Precious

Since the death of Yulasta during the Lost War and the unification and rampage of the orcs, theologians have begun to speculate about the nature of the cloth woven of dunia uzi by Yulasta. The current theories are that the cloth was not in fact invisible, but was pulled by the goddess into the seams between dimensions and tied into the weave, strengthening and protecting the material world from eldritch invasions. If true, this would make the World Tree the most important plant in the universe, for the fate of the entire material plane is protected by fibers from this singular plant, protected by the savage bloodthirstiness of a primitive warrior race. For all life in the material plane, the loss of Yulasta using the tools gifted to her by natures Voice is an unmitigated disaster.   How unfortunate that there is no one to pick up her mantle.

Gives that otherworldly lord of the rings vibe, I love it. Really interesting how it is associated with orcs, makes me want to learn more, and fills my head with ideas for my own writing!

So glad you liked it! The death of Yulasta is a major pivot point in my world and the relationship of Jiisho with the orcs is very dynamic. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment!

Love that you used spinning and weaving of fibers in this. So sad that she did not pass on her gifts!

Yes, and the search is on to find a replacement! There is another Ligeoa, goddess of the dark elves who can take her place, but she is insane, and the price she would demand is one anyone would be reluctant to pay...
