Obsidian Mountain

A Natural Feature

In the South Spiral Mountain Range, north of Steelsong Mountain, three adjacent benign volcanos have created an odd natural feature. With lava constantly flowing down the mountainsides of Mount Ghienak, Mount Kizzkura and Mount Abokatua, the mountains grew taller and taller creating a valley that was raised high above the surrounding lands. Periodic lava flows pouring off the mountains joined together in this valley and created a massive river of hot lava that poured out of the valley down off sheer cliffs, rapidly cooling and landing at the bottom of the cliff in a huge conical mountain of obsidian stone known as the "Obsidian Mountain". Around the base of this structure pools and flows of hot lava gather and move out into the plains, cooling slowly and creating large expanses of flat basalt stone.   After arriving in this area, the Steelsong wished to reclaim the land as a habitable space. This was - difficult - at first, until the invention of the Sorcerous Engine. With this magical tool, the Steelsong were able to harness the heat from the lava flows to create earth magic whch they then used to carve out and pulverize the stone landscape near the Obsidian Mountain.   When one of their engineers, Gandi Himmstock, inspired by the huge conical structure of broken volcanic glass, suggested using the excess earth magic produced by the Sorcerous Engine to cast the hot lava and cool it quickly to make dyke structures to channel lava flows away from settlements, Obsidian Brick and an entire new economy was born.
