Devout of the Horned Dreamer
The world must not be undone so you shall unmake those who will interfere.
The hidden and mad collective of morphesto, they listen and abate every desire of their horned god to ensure the world of dreams are respected and obeyed.
Divine Origins
As dreams has always existed as long as creatures could sleep, those who follow the demands of the horned dreamer have also existed, those who have pierced too deeply into the prophetic and impossible nature of the outer realm. The true origin of the devout is unknown but in their madness, they found each other and formed a unified front in providing appeasement and prophecy to their master.
The devout's supernatural connection means they can directly witness and communicate with morphesto and know their every whim. While morphesto's desires are simple, to keep dreams unmanipulated and his prophecies to hold true and be provided, the whims of morphesto's two axiomatic enforcers however are more mortal and understandable, representing dream and nightmare respectively. These deer headed lords, while branches of morphesto's will, differ in purpose, affected by that which they represent.
This has lead to a split in those who understand the uncontrollable, and assured nature of morphest. Those who follow the will of dreams, lacking the dangerous madness that those who follow the will of nightmares. Willing to give forgiveness and understanding due to their will's better nature. In contrast those who follow the will of nightmares can be considered cold hearted, willing to punish and correct, even with violent means, as soon as possible, driven to malice by the nature of their unconscious visions.
This split is the cause of the modern seperation between the devout, and those who follow morphesto within the conglomerate church, the will of dreams having formed accordance with the church, while the will of nightmares seeks no assistance in it's crusade against those who desecrate the purpose of morphest.
Cosmological Views
While the nature of the world is set in the ways of the afbaar and axys, very few understand the full extent of what can not be, or what may be. the devout understand that morphest exist as an impossibility and also an eternal truth of what is not the world of arsharin. The devout are cursed with greater awareness of the world in this way, forever knowing what might occur without ever knowing what will occur, all while witnessing impossible realities in their sleep completely unbound by the rules of the universe.
Tenets of Faith
The devout have a minor code of conduct that is more of a strict understanding of what must be done to appeal to the horned dreamer then a properly reinforced list of commandments, these understands are:
- You must not interfere with dreams or suffer untold wrath.
- You must not interfere with nightmares or suffer untold wrath.
- You must not interfere with prophetic visions or suffer untold wrath.
- You must ensure all that now is, will not become a dream, replaced by something else.
- You must warn the lucky those who cannot see of what is to come.
- Punish those who do not listen.
- Punish those who prevent them from listening.
Ethics
The devout have no hesitations in following the understandings, willing to act immediately and decisively; the seers and their followers hold pause commonly, giving considerations to what visions they've seen and to what is causing morphesto rage. While a devout is willing to choose the most immediate of solutions, including murder even in the face of the victims being victims of another's foul play, to the devout, any who participate in such desecrations are all problems needing to be culled.
The seers and the will of dreams do not see eye to eye with their counterparts due to this, understanding and wishing to provide proper conclusion to such incursions instead, to stop the true culprit of altered dreams or forced nightmares compared to the devout's willingness to kill the child to prevent any more undeserved and ungifted sufferings.
Worship
The devout seek to ensure that even the most structured of their nightmares are as far off from the current waking world could possibly be, with next to no downtime for this regard, however, those who are luckier in how deeply consumed by their visions take time to often scare and warn other individuals into avoiding being in their crosshairs, or often find materials to use their god's favored weapon or to hunt their preferred attire.
Comparatively, the followers of the will of dream within the church often meditate to control and handle their visions that peer too deeply into the nightmares within morphest and maintain their sense of self, and often properly warn others of the danger of interfering with dreams and drawing the god-that-isn't's ire.
Priesthood
Due to the nature of the devout, while many other religions have an archbishop or pope of some kind, the devout lack any particular singular priest of power, instead, the direct control lies in the will of dreams and the will of nightmares. Below these direct supernatural superiors however, the devout of the nightmare are structured by devotion and usefulness, those who have provided more to the grand scheme of the devout have direct authority over others, both out of respect and fear. The most dangerous of the devout commonly seek to mimic their masters and will gore stag and deer to wear their as a cloak and hood, the more devout often acquiring larger stag to wear, most often not even bothering with proper cleaning or tanning of such an outfit.
In contrast however, the will of dreams appoints people to positions, as to mimic and help integrate with the conglomerate church, while they take up the position of "archbishop" within the church's schema. Those who possess the greatest connection with morphest holding higher powers as prophets and archseers, while volunteers who lack powers act on behest of the seers to investigate their visions and monitor the devout. The volunteers commonly vary in training though will ensure that atleast one eye is always covered by some means, including even facial veils or hoods, as a form of comradery with the seers and prophets who have no such choice and have long since lost their normal sight.
Those within the church continue down this split of those who serve the seers and those who are seers themselves, while seers are often afforded great patience and whimsy to help maintain themselves. Their servants often are far more strict and wear proper outfits including offering kinship to their blinded seer brethren in a variety of ways, though most choose helmets with no holes for theirs eyes and choose to learn how to fight as blinded warriors. The highest amount of bear some similarity to the devout in that they often have ceremonial antlers grafted to their helmets or forged from metal to show their status, with exception to inquisitors who require some form of discreetness.
Sects
The devout are split into two sects, the main and larger faction of the two being the devout cult as known. The followers of the nightmare with no remorse or sanity left after peering into the impossible and the unmade.
The second of these, is the smaller followers of the will of dream, who have joined with the conglomerate church, while these have no proper name within the church and are simply called the followers of dream, they are often given a name by the devout, and are known as the "Lucid Dreamers of Morphest."
