Havaclyte (ˈhav-a-'klīt)
Nothing will keep down the weight of the world.
Otherwise known as Floatstone, havaclyte is the culprit in all cases of randomly wandering about, only to see a floating rock, boulder, or even an entire island in the sky or possible just a few feet off the ground.
Havaclyte functions as stone when used for weapons and armor.
Armor Most havaclyte armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing havaclyte full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor’s check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving.
Armors not primarily of metal are not meaningfully affected by being partially made of havaclyte. (A set of full plate can be a havaclyte armor set, while leather armor cannot be.)
Properties
Material Characteristics
A natural type of stone commonly throughout the world, this incredibly light material is a light gray that commonly comes in a speckled pattern.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Unreliable due to it's very light nature and ability to be pushed by strong winds, havaclyte commonly clumps up near other chunks of havaclyte into floating fields or pillars of havaclyte build up, essentially congregating and even moving away from contact with other materials when possible. It is due to this supernatural floating and repellant that larger amounts of havaclyte floats up higher into the air, the repelling force increasing in the increased havaclyte sizes, that floating islands commonly occur, as the force has grown to the point of pushing it hundreds of feet off the ground.
Despite this, havaclyte is still stone, and cannot simply crumble apart if anchored to other stone or used as a building material that is wrapped around, or attached to other objects. This makes the stone incredibly useful for making more vertical structures or floating structures attached to things such as trees, mountains, or even other rocks that act as anchors. A common practice when a sky island is found in a strategic or useful location is to build large powerful chains that get connected to the island, to prevent it from drifting away and allow it to be safely used as buildable land.
These islands often may still have life, plants, trees, and other materials on them as the repelling force present in havaclyte only pushes havaclyte away, once the upward force of the havaclyte far exceeds whatever downward force objects on top of the stone mass might be, it commonly ends up being a usable habitat that can sometimes completely differ in cilmate to the ground beneath it.
Geology & Geography
Havaclyte is often found throughout the world, with little regard for geological or geographical tendencies due to being pushed around by wind currents and their floating capabilities.
Origin & Source
The origin of havaclyte is often conflated with the destruction of a former landmass known as the godcorpse. The remaining pieces of the landmass being scattered across the world from the catastrophe. These materials are said to have gained their lightweight properties from whatever mishap occurred in the long lost lands, but as these are ancient myths, there's no particular proof, outside of a few known larger collections of havaclyte having ancient ruins on them, but the date and origins of these ruins cannot be confirmed.
