Northerner (ˈnȯr-t͟hər-nər)

The cold gates hold still.

Hulking warriors form the northern lands, northerners are well known for their terrifying size and strength, as well as their preferences to cover their heads.   Physical Description: Resembling massive humanoids often twice the height of normal humanoids, northerners are muscled, commonly pale skinned or pallid giants who take to covering their heads in some form of adornment, either masks, helmets, hoods, or other attire due to a natural desire to hide their face after living in the northern lands for so long. Their eyes are pitch black save for the reflection they give when light hits them, their broad shoulders often causing their arms to have nothing to rest against naturally when in a normal standing position. While northerners do not commonly show their head, it is known that their hair often comes in a small variety of blacks, grays, whites, and browns.

Society: Northerner society is often the basis for society as a whole within gjornbern and even further north, a culture based on survivor and training their skills to survive the harsh endless winters that plague the far north. Often having a primary shaman and chieftain leading a clan or tribe of northerners, the shaman often choosing animal hides as their head wear of choice, while the chieftains often choose horned helmets, or incredibly decorated animal skulls, and often take gifts in the form of new adornments or to replace their head wear entirely. As a common practice some northerners take to traveling lightly, wearing very little armor, to battle as berserkers against their enemies.   Relations: While northerner tribes often primarily compose of northerners, they do not hesitate to take others in if it will bolster the tribe, and welcome any stragglers or exiles that often come their way. As such many northerner tribes can be an assortment of races such as centaurs, who take on the northerner culture as they live with them and watch over the northern lands. Despite this, northerners also often end up in situations where they run out of supplies despite their extensive traditions, and end up commonly attacking and invading the northern border of ko shusshochi for supplies.   Alignment and Religion: Northerner alignment often skews towards chaotic, as they are more often unfettered or wild in temperament then most, though woe be to those who meet a calm northerner. Despite this they have no alignment restrictions and can be of any alignment. They often worship gods of the north, warrior gods, gods of nomads or traveling, as well as gods of the hearth, as gods who primarily have their interests in mind. However, above all else, they do have two deities they consider their patron deities often within gjornbern and further north, en'zavao and froulenor, two gods said to be ascendants and northerners themselves when mortal.   Adventurers: Despite their name, while it is uncommon to see northerners below gjornbern, some do still choose to travel the world for a variety of reasons, whether as pilgrimage, soul-searching, purely because a life of banditry proved more profitable, or because they are an exile or lost their tribe entirely, northerners do end up as adventurers at times throughout the world, ending up as amazing frontline warriors or shamans.

  • Ability Score Racial Traits: Northerners are hulking guardians of the north, and with their size comes inherit strength and fortitude. They gain +4 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity.
  • Type: Northerners are humanoids with the giant subtype.
  • Size: Northerners are Large creatures. They suffer a -1 size penalty to AC and attack rolls. They gain a +1 size bonus to CMB and CMD but suffer a -4 size penalty to Stealth checks. It has a space of 10 feet by 10 feet and has a reach of 10 feet.
  • Base Speed: Northerners have a base speed of 30 feet.
  • Languages: Northerner begin play speaking Giant and Northerner. Northerners with high Intelligence scores can chose from the following: Aquan, Common, Draconic, Dwarven, Ko Shusshochan, Sylvan. See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages.

  • Endurance: Northerners receive Endurance at level 1 as a bonus feat.
  • Threatening Presence: Northerners always treat Intimidate and Perception as class skills.
