Traveler's Rations

Mechanics & Inner Workings

One package of rations is a neatly wrapped square (most commonly wrapped in a very thin layer of leather from a specific creature that essentially has the properties of rice paper - if heated until golden edges it makes for a bread-like snack) and is waterproofed by a little enchanted charm hung on the piece of hemp rope it's tied with.

Inside are three things: what looks like a ring 9cm in diameter, a note explaining how to use it and a bar that has the default texture and taste of a whole-wheat bread sandwich with some extra seeds, ham, cheese and either cucumber or tomato { - when a person holds the ration to unwrap and eat it, the waterproofing charm flashes its magic into the pack having it speed-analyze and adapt to the individual's preferences and possible allergies. This way a common ration if bought by a person who is gluten free or a vegetarian - they'd get a gluten free bread option with just the cheese and two vegetables or a cheese - similar product and something else - }.
The instruction given explains how to work the taste - changing magic circlet given, in a way that even travelers with no magic can handle. When done correctly that circlet, when the "sandwich" is passed through it for a few seconds, will completely change the taste and content of the food. Namely it can make it into any of three different pastry kinds, turn it into a bread-bowl of one of three kinds of soup, turn it into one of a couple of sandwich options or make it into a piece of fried meat or vegetables. It was invented to change this way in order to give an option for variety in the diet of a traveling one and not make them grow sick and tired of eating just one thing for every meal.
