The Everstorm

Ever-Spinning Tempest

The Everstorm, as it has been named, is a perpetual lightning storm atop the highest peak in the Bolcan mountains. Since time immemorial the people of Arxios have seen it rage far above.

Many legends surround the storm, ranging from pragmatic to insane. Some believe it to be the gateway to a god's realm, others insist it to be the domain of an elder elemental. Some kooks have even tried to spread the idea of it being a "low-pressure zone in the atmosphere that encourages warm winds from the south to rise and continually form storm conditions". The truth is, as of yet, unknown. Many explorers and researchers have tried and failed to reach the peak. Almost all were forced to turn back by the storm's might. Those that pushed onwards never returned at all.

Theories and Postulations

The peak around which the storm spins is the highest in all of Arxios, save for the glacial shelves in the Frozen Hearth. Its location would be the optimal domain for air elementals, sky gods, or giants. Ancient elven myths point to the southern Bolcan mountains as the domain of fiendish mountain spirits, most likely earth or air elementals. Alongside this, the free-state city of Moletown, situated in the shadow of the mountains, is home to a fair population of Giantkin such as Goliaths and Firbolg, suggesting that their ancestors may have slowly made their way down the mountains and settled beneath.

Another theory suggests that the area on which Moletown is built is also the site of the arch-witch Medea's former domain. The craters left after her final stand form the hovels that make up Moletown. Medea was a known consort of demons, she may have chosen the site knowing its proximity to the storm, which could contain the domain of a demon lord.
