The Moonlight Jellyfish

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Moonlight Jellyfish has a squishy, amorphous blob as its body, which is slightly translucent. Tens of thin tentacles extend out from beneath the body, which slowly wave as the jellyfish swims. A pulsating blue glow emerges from the center of the jellyfish's body.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Moonlight Jellyfish goes through three stages: Pod, Polyp, and Adult. As a pod, the Moonlight jellyfish silently floats through the ocean until it eventually rests against a solid surface. There, it slowly forms into a plant-resembling structure, with a stem connecting a body resembling that of an adult to the surface. Eventually, after spending several weeks gathering nutrients, the body disconnects from the stem and the Moonlight Jellyfish's tentacles emerge. After this, the trademark glow of the Moonlight Jellyfish quickly appears.

Ecology and Habitats

The Moonlight Jellyfish thrives along the shallows near the Dark Isles, absorbing ambient energy generated from within the Dark Isles and feeding off of plankton and other small sea animals.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Once every 2 years, the Moonlight Jellyfish will retreat into the depths of the ocean. There, its residual glow will increase in luminescence to the point where it is visible for miles. Other Moonlight Jellyfish can detect the magic generated by the glow and will begin to move together into groups. These groups will use magic to slowly erode sand on the surface of ocean rocks away, as well as storing magic slowly in the area. The Moonlight Jellyfish will then reproduce and release Moonlight Pods, which latch onto the rocks and feed off of the magic now in the area. Once the pods have latched onto the rocks and begun their transformation into Polyps, the Moonlight Jellyfish return to the shallows near the Dark Isles.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Moonlight Jellyfish is blind, but is able to detect smell and can track even slight movements in the water indicating motion nearby. It can also detect areas with large amounts of ambient magics.
