Divinity and Deities

Types of Divinity

Divinity on Ashaia is an intangible source of energy that empowers a select few. This mystical force grants incredible power to those who represent an aspect of the world, granting more or less power depending on its importance. The amount of divinity one can possess varies from primordial to demi, a difference which is akin to a beetle and a wolf. These beings are often worshiped and are always influential on the world at large. Those close to powerful divine beings can sometimes obtain demi-divinity, being seen by many as a minor deity. No level of divinity allows a being to rewrite the universe as they see fit, only to use their great power to influence it.

Primordial Divinity

In the history of Ashaia there has only ever been three beings to ever wield Primordial Divinity; the White Knight, Malthygmos until his murder at the hands of King Oberon, who later became the third being to wield primordial divinity: the Night Sovereign.   This level of divinity is phenomenal, but it is not perfect. It binds the being to uphold their portfolio, no matter the cost. This happened when Malthygmos was mortally wounded by the King of Air and Darkness. He may have had absolute power over death, but he was unable to violate his portfolio to save his own life and thus passed his power to the King of Air and Darkness. Due to their powerful nature and capability for destruction, these primordial deities often lock themselves away from mortals for the safety of all.

Greater Divinity

Beings of greater divinity often possess powerful portfolios or have a large amount of followers. These deities are often seen as a ruler of a small subset of demi-deities. Typically these deities have three domains and are the head of a pantheon of lesser deities.

Lesser Divinity

Those of lesser divinity often have a singular powerful domain, or possibly a few domains that grant them additional power to transcend demi-divinity. These deities tend to have two or less domains and may either be the consort of a greater deity or a deity that has amassed some place of worship among their pantheon.

Demi-Divinity

Ranging from powerful heroes, to the offspring of other deities. Demi-divinity grants enough power to allow an individual to overcome a small army of mortals alone. They often possess a singular, obscure portfolio, often gathering followers by influence, granting them greater power.

Death and Divinity

As seen with Malthygmos and the Night Sovereign, deities are not invincible. However, it should be noted that no other instance of a deity who has achieved a divinity greater than demi-divinity has ever been slain since. It is speculated, from this singular event, that divinity is absorbed by the being that slays the deity. Divinity from a demi-deity is not absorbed, it simply disperses back into its natural channels.

Dogmas

Each deity has a dogma that its followers attend to. Some dogmas, as in the case of Helmut are written by others in their stead, where as some are spoken by their own mouths, as is the case with Titania. A deity who is deceased no longer has a dogma to attend to, and has no domains under its power.
