Tenets of the Augur

The Tenets of the Augur is the counterbalance to Altria's government. When the country was formed, the first High Diviner secretly established the organization in order to make sure that, should Altria fall to evil due to its great power, a check would be in place to bring its walls tumbling down. Until that time came, it was the current Augur's duty to ensure that the order could stop substantial threats to the kingdom.

Structure

As the main objective of the Tenets of the Augur is absolutely secrecy, they have no true hierarchy, save for the guildmaster and Augur. Members almost always wear scarves, masks, or use magical means to obscure their identities from one another. This is not out of distrust, but purely a professional courtesy in order to preserve each member's plausible deniability and confidentiality. Members, when tasked to work together, cannot avoid seeing each other's faces, but this rarely happens. The guildmaster hand selects all new recruits with assistance from the Augur.

The Augur

The Augur is always the most skilled in the art of divination and bears the most terrible burden of the Archmages; the freedom to violate the third law of magic: "thou shalt not gaze upon the future that will be." The guilt of this act is reason enough to dissuade the light-hearted, but the burden of knowing all that was and all that will be would permanently scar any individual. All Augurs know when they will die, by whose hand, and who will succeed them. Their life is but the slow count of a clock that must be wound in their eyes. The current Augur, and Archmage of Divination is Alwyn Dramriel.

Guildmaster

While the Augur is technically the head of the organization, this is mostly a figurehead type position. The individual that gives orders to the many members of the order are is the guildmaster. This individual is able to command all members of the order and is oftentimes the most grizzled, decorated, and experienced member of the guild. The current guildmaster is Alexander Tombs, a veteran of the Altrian military and expert in espionage.
