The Sundering was an extinction level event that destroyed the world of Atoril (The Old World) on the seventh day of the month of Geralid in the year 3349. A series of strange green meteor strikes slammed into its polar ice caps, triggering a world wide tidal wave and great firestorms. The impact sent millions of tons of rock, dirt and volcanic ash into the sky, blocking out the sun. In a mere ten hours, the surface of Atoril was a churning hells cape, completely devoid of life.   The Exodus of Toril-  Fortunately for the planet's many inhabitants the meteors were detected quite early on. A highly skilled network of citizens of the nation of Handal caught wind of its arrival via a network of Divination, Seers and Oracles. Unfortunately a secret of that magnitude could never be kept, it got out with less than a year till impact. Panic and fear gripped the hearts of every nation. The silence of the Gods from the Pantheons was taken by the populace as a sign to abandon the Old World of Atoril to start a new life in this New World. Others preched that they accept the fact that the Gods had indeed forsaken them all.Uprisings were getting out of control as the world's more intelligent races all sought some sort of answer from their now silent Gods   Grand Archeologist Jarvis Xanthar the third, a renowned Scientist, Inventor and Master Tinker found what became to be a series of strange Portals buried in an abandoned warehouse of King Snikkertink. All thirteen of the portals still bear his name in the scientific community. The metal they were crafted from was lite and stronger than any Human steel, Elven Mithril, or even Dwarven forged Adamantium. It was invulnerable to the heat of the Clockwork Forges of Old Tinkertown.Black dragon acid slid right off without so much as a blemish.   Only once the last piece of the first Portal was unboxed, assembled and the Meteors were detected did it become active. It burst into action with a loud whirring sound. Soon it was realized that there were in fact thirteen other Portals across Atoril and that they were somehow communicating amongst themselves.   The Portals all seemed to re-create and distort gravity, space and time into a flickering mirror like screen stretching its entire fifteen foot diameter. There was little doubt they were indeed some sort of Alien Technology that the world of Atoril knew nothing about. They all simultaneously emitted a lower frequency hum one day and then just as quickly, fell silent. All of their surfaces began flickering into an image of a lush, green, three mooned planet with vast deserts, massive mountain ranges and bountiful seas.    The mass migrations were not without their horrors but in general they went as well as could be expected considering the circumstances.Millions of Humanoids began migrating towards their closest Portal in hope of escaping the coming doom. The first of the Immigrants through the portal were supported by a team of Rangers, Wizards, Clerics and heavily armed soldiers from all nations. Roughly one thousand were sent through the first Portal
