Headmaster

Merlon Grimm.png
The head of the the Opal Assembly and the the Opal Academy as a whole. The Headmaster has the task of developing the Academy's infrastructure and has the power to veto any non-unanimous decisions made by the Opal Assembly.   During the tenure of Merlonn Grimm which lasted for over six centuries, the role of Headmaster was one of absolute power. Whilst the Academy has a council consisting of all the other school heads, Merlonn wieleded absolute control over the entire school grounds, coming and going and doing what he pleased.   Nobody dared challenge him on this, both due to the fact that he was the most powerful wizard known to the world at the time and due to the fact that he had been the academy's founder.

Merlonn's tenure ended with his death at the end of the Day of Scales and Shadow. He was succeeded by the wizard Mordenkainen whom it turns out he had been holding prisoner within a pocket dimension for over three centuries.   Mordenkainen held the title of Headmaster for five years, restructuring critical elements of the Academy's inner workings. He massively reduced the power of those who would hold the title of Headmaster after him, giving more of the decision making power to the rest of the Assembly. Then, after only five years, he resigned from the position.

History

Merlonn Grimm used his powers as Headmaster first out of a desire to gather knowledge, then to maintain it. Merlonn used the magical artifacts freely available to him from the Academy's storage to try and summon one of the Deific Imus, The Risen, in order to replace them and become an immortal.   He would not have been able to freely do the things he did without the title of Headmaster, combined with his high rank in the Opulan Council as a member of the Vox Cognit.
