The Festival of Light

The Festival of Light is the Winter celebration held on the longest night of the year in the middle of the month of Yshras. This festival is a celebration of the perseverance of the people having survived the Breaking and all that came after. During this long night people visit their neighbors and give them not only gifts but also light, usually in the form of candles. This is to get them through the long night to come. According to tradition you are supposed to remain awake the whole night until the morning comes, keeping light within your house so that your future is blessed by light instead of darkness. These days, however, most people do not adhere to such strict traditions.
