Halfling
The history of the Halfling race is unique in that it is deeply intertwined with the histories of many other races. Aside from Humans, Halflings have the largest total number of populace in Askara. Typically quick-witted and even-tempered, Halflings are welcomed throughout the realm with little prejudice. Humans and Dwarves both view Halflings as distant relatives, and some theorize that the Halfling race originated from the prolonged crossbreeding between Humans and Dwarves. There are three main subraces of Halfling, each of which having their own unique qualities to help differentiate:
- Lightfoot Halflings are by far the most common type of Halfling. They can be found in the largest cities, the remote wilderness, and everywhere in-between. Lightfoots are also the smallest of the race, hence the name "Lightfoot". They tend to wander more than the other subraces, and commonly take up adventuring in their young adulthood.
- Stout Halflings are the largest and hardiest of the Halflings. They more clearly show that they may in fact have Dwarven ancestry. Much like Dwarves, Stout Halflings tend to dwell in mountain communities, and can most commonly be found in the Hyfane Dominion.
- Lotusden Halflings are a rare site in Askara. Not only are they few in number overall, what little population there is remains secluded in their tribal villages in Eldath's Rest. They have perfected the art of seclusion and are masters of the wilderness.
