Discovery
The discovery of the properties of azollea grass is commonly attributed to Lady Claudile Drury, a goddess who was part of the now extinct Malbet pantheon. Lady Drury was primarily a nature goddess and was focussed on the preservation of the the planet rather than on gathering power through the faith-weave. With this focus in mind, she was often travelling far and wide, including well-beyond the lands that usually sustained her power.
She visited the lands of
Aralun during the Great Plague that marred part of the Age of Peace. Not one to usually care for the mortals of the material plane, it was quite unusual when Lady Drury struck a friendship with a lone man caring for an old oak tree that was said to have once supported the Creator as he rested after protecting Aralun from a natural disaster. The goddess was touched and offered the man a blessing, who wisely chose not to use it straight away. When the man fell ill, he asked the goddess to cure him so he would never have to leave the tree until it was his time to die. The goddess used her power and magical knowledge to activate healing properties within the common and easily accessible azollea. She also used her power to modify the genetic and magical make up of the man, so azollea tea would literally cure every disease he might contract during his life.
Manufacturing
Azollea can be used in various forms: as a solution, an extract or a concentrate.
Manufacturing the solution is as simple as boiling fresh or dried azollea into water to make a tea that can be drunk as is.
Extract of azollea requires fresh azollea grass to be marinated for 3 weeks in a solution of 75% water, 25% alcohol. The extract should be kept in a cool, dark, dry place while this process is underway. Once the grass has been marinated, left over grass and other impurities should be strained away before the liquid is brought to a boil for 1 hour to activate its healing properties.
A concentrated version of the extract can be created by boiling the extract until most of the water has evaporated. The left over sludge is strained away and the concentrate is then ready to be used.
Availability
Azollea extract is common and has been in use as a home remedy for fevers since the first century of the Age of Peace. Because of the potential side effects involved with the concentrate of this plant extract, availability is restricted to healers, registered herbalists and priests.
