Chalco

Chalco is a mostly-abandoned city at the base of the Ouroborous Mountain. Chalco used to be the capital city of Warka until the mid-4000s AR. The original branch of the Warka Academy is seated here and still runs itself, though with fewer scholars than in its heyday and it has been officially recentered to Jontu.
It previously had a population of about 500,000, one of the largest cities at the time (~3000s AR at its peak), but the population shrunk around 4500 AR as the effects of the Starstone continued to worsen and change time in the area, making it difficult to live there. People would age differently, see glimpses of the past as shadows in alleys, get two sunsets per day or days that would last over 72 hours, etc. - effects that still occur today. Now its population is about 10,000 and dwindling - while still a relatively populous city, it is much less populated and seems like a ghost town.
Chalco relies mostly on imported food, or crops that they grow themselves - though the harvest seasons are off there because of the stone, and conditions are strange for growing crops (many people here worship Aconi and Aestus in hopes that they will assist their growing seasons). It’s not an easy life here, and most people here are researchers (and their families), people who study the Starstone intensely, or families who were too poor to move elsewhere.
