Donhearth ([doʊnhɑɹθ] (don- like in "donate"))
The festival of Donhearth is a holiday celebrated during winter. Donhearth is celebrated by anonymously giving gifts, along with hints as to the identity of the giver. The recipient then attempts to discern the identity of the giver by following the clues. The form of the clues varies by gift-giver and tradition, but poems or scavenger hunts are popular forms to leave them in.
Other Donhearth traditions include expressing gratitude to gift-givers and recounting the story of Donhearth.
The festival is loosely associated with Mallean, as he is credited with starting the tradition of giving winter gifts.
History
Mallean, on one of his journeys to visit his people among the mortals, arrived in a village late into the night and found nobody awake to accept his blessings. Intrigued by the opportunity to give without receiving worship or prayers of thanks, he left his gifts by their hearths and kept traveling. He continued this yearly tradition until a young mortal realized he was responsible and thanked him via prayer. After that, the mortals took up this tradition with family and friends—anonymous presents appeared next to hearths, accompanied by clues to the giver's identity, and friends and family delighted in solving the mystery of who gave what gift.
