Dracula

Dracula is a novel by Dhulwinian author Abram Schneijder, published in 4897. It is an epistolary novel told through letters and journal entries of fictionalized versions of historic members of the Dracula family of Threshold. The novel's plot is based on the Dracula family's history.   Dracula has been popular since its initial publication, especially among audiences in the Brights with little experience of Gloom social life and culture. It has been praised as a formational work in the history of the novel, and is widely studied as a classic in schools and universities. However, the novel has also been criticized as ahistorical, and Schneijder has been criticized for not involving the Dracula family in the writing of the novel.   At the time of Dracula's publication, the story existed only as an oral history. Schneijder reportedly learned the story while studying world literature. The same story has since been recorded by the Dracula family themselves in association with Thresholder authors and historians in the novel The Blood of the Dracula, Whose First Spilling Built the House. Of the two novelizations, Dracula is much more popular.

Plot

Dracula follows several primary characters in the Dracula family. Scholars have debated whether all of the novel's characters are intended to represent particular individuals in the historical events the novel is based on, or whether some represent multiple characters or are entirely fictionalized.   The novel's plot follows the family as Codrin Radu, a minor peripheral member of House Dracula, is turned into a vampire and struggles to control his changing appetites ahead of a major gathering of the entire Dracula family. At the gathering, he loses control of his powers and mistakenly kills Florina Dracula, the beloved eldarch of the house, completing his transformation into a full-fledged vampire. The other family members wish to have Codrin killed for his crime, but the Dracula family has a law preventing members of House Dracula from using physical punishment on other members of the house. The family elects to excommunicate Codrin, after which he is hunted and killed. The Dracula family then vows to maintain peace in the Gloom by hunting down any vampires that interact with the populace, beginning their reputation as vampire hunters.

The Blood of the Dracula, Whose First Spilling Built the House

The Blood of the Dracula, Whose First Spilling Built the House is a novel published in 5523 that tells the same story as Dracula, but with a focus on historical accuracy. It is a direct transcription of the oral history of the event, which predates Dracula; however, its later publication has made it far less popular and impactful on the literature field or popular culture than Dracula.   The novel differs from Dracula in several ways, from its prose style to its use of accurate historical names and depictions of members of House Dracula.
