Loxodon

Loxodons are a race of elephant humanoids. They are known as formidable warriors - they're tough as tanks, surprisingly quick on their feet, and tireless in battle. Loxodons' beliefs are straightforward, earnest and, above all, unswerving. Loxodons are often an oasis of calm. They hum or chant in sonorous tones and move slowly or sit in perfect stillness. As they say, "There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.". Loxodons are known to be pacifists by default, and worship Oghma.

A herd is the family they were born into, and other times it is the group which they have chosen to be a part of. A tenet of their race is the responsibility to look out for one another. This loyalty inherent to their culture is reflected in how they live their lives. Typically speaking, a Loxodon is a calm, steadfast individual, one who enjoys their craft and the presence of people they care about. When a Loxodon is driven to partake in violence, their commitment goes to the battle and they become truly terrifying opponents. An enraged Loxodon’s ears will flap wildy and their trunk will trumpet with rage as they fight for something they believe in. Loxodons are extremely gifted stonemasons. They possess an innate grasp of the art that rivals a dwarf’s connection to the forge.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Great Calamity / The Heliocide had a profound affect on all races inhabiting Astara, fundamentally changing the way many cultures survived. The majority populous of many races were wiped out entirely, and those that survived were left in utter desolation. The years following the Calamity consisted of mass migrations of displaced cultures, forced to move somewhere safe or intact to start anew. During this time, alliances were forged and broken, ancient treaties abandoned, and a lawless chaos ensued. Most were desperate, and resorted to whatever measures necessary to survive. This greatly impacted the behavior of not only individuals, but cultures as a whole, as seen with the re-emergence of unsavory practices like cults, slavery and cannibalism.
