Properties

Material Characteristics

Akin to the silk it is made off, the Aether silk has a shimmering tone to it. It seems to glisten in a spectrum of colors wherever light bounces off it, and even more so when that light is magical in nature. Its texture is smooth, lightweight, and doesn't stretch very well.

Physical & Chemical Properties

While retaining all the qualities of normal cloth, the fabric also acts as a ward for residual magic energies.

Geology & Geography

The silk for the cloth is spun in the northwestern regions of the Republic of Thorns, or imported from the Vetitian Empire. The ingredients for the magical compound is mostly manufactured in Evergreen.

Life & Expiration

If kept away from any magical residue, the fabric loses its retaining qualities in about one year's time. The silk deteriorates after about 15 years.

History & Usage

History

Usage of Aether Silk predates the current era. It was manufactured during the war with the old gods, used as protection against their invisible influence rays. As the war came to an end there was little use for silk that could only protect against beta levels of magical residue, and so it became a fashion fabric for those who had the resources to service it.
As Evergreen grew into a magical powerhouse, the silk started coming back into more common production.

Everyday use

Clothes made out of Aether Silk are mostly worn by those with the money and need to have it produced. Heads of factories, teachers, or others who are in contact with magic on a daily basis.
