Session 11: 12/10/2024
General Summary
Asterlynn, morning of the 27th of Quildarynn until 14 o' clock in the year 333 AI
Wave Echo Cave
It is by the dwarven's instincts alone that it's decided tha tmorning has broken. Not a single ray of light reaches their latest camping spot: Nundro's former cell. It is unscathed though, that they have overcome the night. After a hearthy, yet cold breakfast, the group of dungeoneers sets forth to explore the remainder of the cave and rid it of any evil.
Setting forth in North'West direction they follow what seems to be an old dried out stream bed. Not long after entering a 'narrow' passage of a mere 4 feet high, they emerge into an enormous cavern. Standing on a ledge they can see an undergroud sea reaching as far as the eye stretches. Twenty feet below them, the water seemingly is trying to climb up and grasp at our friends' ankles. As a wave pushes, the water seems to climb the edge, yet it falls short, these intruders are out of reach. With a sad boom the water recedes again after a minute. Only to try again, and again,...
As every incoming wave echoes as a thundering boom through the cavern, the party finally sees with its own eyes, hears with its own ears, why this whole system is called Wave Echo Cave. Tearing their minds from the wonders below, the cave is explored further, there seem to be two possible exits. When upon closer inspection one seems to lead to an ancient battlefield, seemingly guarded by a flaming skull, the second option is chosen.
Thus, our friends reach what turns out to be the ancient workshops, where wizards enchanted the forged weapons and so created many wondrous items. In the workshop, after some stealthy investigation, they discover a Spectator standing guard. This mumbling mess, obviously has lost a lot of his marbles. trying the diplomatic route, Liberty enters the room and starts up a civil, telepathic conversation. If the fact that the Spectator was talking to himself as if in conversation with multiple personalities wasn't proof enough of a certain madness, this conversation proves it. This unfortunate soul was summoned during the war between the Dark Elves and their army and the dwarves wizards and humans.

Liberty soon learns a lot. The Abberation was summoned to guard this exact workshop, centuries ago. However, chained by his strict orders it never left the room. In its mind the war is still ongoing, and he is bound to do his masters bidding. So, losing all track of time, it slowly went utterly confused and insane. Seeing an oportunity to resolve this situation peacefully, Liberty attempts to prove that the war has ended, that his master is gone, and even that Gundren and Nundro are the new owners. That they are all miners... all possible arguments are laid bare. Supported almost by the truth even.
Unfortunately, the Spectator is a lost cause. For a slight moment, in a flicker of sanity, it almost believes it could be free, that his task has indeed ended. But then the madness grips him again... And this time, violence is the only option left. So it is that with a bit of pain in their heart and sorrow in their eyes, that they decidedly beat that bastard to a pulp until quiet returns to the workshop. The room is a mess, everything has fallen to pieces, almost everything. The brazier in the center of the room still contains some magic. But no longer does the flame burn bright enough to permanently enchant any item. Still, a few hours is possible... With enchanted weaponry, our party then decides to face the flaming skull... head on.
Head on... with two arrows in the back of what turns out to be a Flameskull with Zombies as reinforcements. The battle thus starts with a stab in the back, but the Flaming fiend repliers in turn, as a ball of fire suddenly explodes in the middle of the group. It is with singed hairs and ome burns that the party pulls through and sets upon the enemy! The flameskull is overwheled! His zombie friends are too slow to help him and soon he lies in pieces, smashed by the mace deftly handled by Resnalore!
The zombies in turn are easily dealt with, even with their annoying tendency to return to life. As the last tumbles to the floor silence falls. Silence broken only by a scratching sound all around. Made, as it turns out, by the Flameskull trying to piece itself together! Apparently this one doesn't go down quite as easily, or at least doesn't stay down as easily. At first no one is really sure how to deal with it. Only after Liberty uses all her expertise to determine that the only permanent fix is either dousing it in holy water, dispelling the controlling magic or removing the curse, does the party decide. Throwing the remains in the sea it is...
So, boxed up on different places, the remains of the Flameskull are thrown in the sea. Removing some stirge, and their our party stands. Ready to continue its exploration of Wave Echo Cave
