When the world was Devoured
They say the material plane was once unending, the sky above holding only our sun, and at night no stars or a single moon. All manner of beings walked this plane, and so too did many deific beings we call ' patrons '. The land in which we walked upon was the goddess Gaia, and the sky above we named Sul. You may ask me now why there are stars in the sky, where our moons come from. Many of you may think me crazy, but you should listen nonetheless. The land in which we walk, the stars above, and even our moons are but remnants of the great goddess herself. Mere crumbs leftover from another foul patron making Gaia his midday lunch. Back in a time when our ancestor's ancestors ruled the land, Ellymlean, patron of life birthed two new patrons into this plane. The patron of Purity, and the patron of corruption. But as corruption was coming into form, the foul demented patron of chaos saw his opportunity and laid claim to the other's soul, devouring him and setting foot upon our world unending.
We know him now as Anilvim, the black eye that rules over his own abyss. The father of demons, and creator of our sins. When he leaked into our realm he tainted us with his presence, and wished only to destroy us. So he set about devouring Gaia whole. Her screams echoing louder than thunder across the lands for all to hear. Before all was lost, however, the other patrons combined their powers in an effort to push out the demonic black eye from our realm. And so they did, we were spared from an ultimate terror, a nightmare unending. But the patrons weakened themselves in their efforts to save the goddess, and failed their ultimate goal. Gaia was dead, and we now drift upon one of the many crumbs leftover from Anilvim's feast. Our world is finite, and Anilvim was made much more powerful than many of the other patrons for this reason. His influence still leaks into our realm, and seeks to corrupt and taint us. So I ask that you never forget this story, for in forgetting you unknowingly forgive Anilvim for cursing us to this existence. In forgiving him, you make him stronger, and give him power over you.
Summary
The world, once thought infinite in scope, was devoured almost entirely by the patron of corruption, Anilvim. He was able to breach the barrier put up by Gaia to keep him and many other patrons from reaching her by absorbing the Patron of Corruption. The other patrons banded together to banish Anilvim from Gaia, but Gaia had already been killed. Because of this, may patrons disappeared almost entirely from history, and many more are far weaker than they ever were.
Historical Basis
Try as they might, scholars have not been able to prove this event's occurrence. It is still regarded as historical fact, however any and all proof that existed seems to be as far fetched as the story itself. Even with many recorded accounts of Anilvim, demons, and other Patrons existing and living proof of their impact on the world, there has been no proof whatsoever that these events ever happened.
Spread
This story is well known all across Asterra, from the far east, to the west and everything in between. Even though language is a barrier, all peoples have their own version of this story, thought the origins of it date back to time immemorial. The names of the story's patrons never change from place to place either. Anilvim, Ellymlean, and Gaia are the only accepted names of the patrons in the story.
