Umbra
While it has gone through many fractures and rejoining over history, it remains largely culturally intact, with its current iteration consisting of the mercantile oriented Findalanor in the north, the militaristic Rashemen in the southwest, and North Umbra, staunch traditionalists (and proclaimed direct ancestors to the original Umbran clan) between the two. Umbra was founded in approx 6,000 BCR following the The Godswar by refugees hailing from the realm of Midgard. House Umbran had spent several decades leading up to the godswar organizing the Midgardian slaves in a planned revolt against their oppressors, and rallied the survivors of the war in a pilgrimage north to found a new home. They called the land they eventually settled in Niggergard, and established the nation of Umbra. Umbra grew and prospered over the next several millenia, growing to its height at around 3,000 BCR. The collapse of Clan Deephammer paired with the Orcgate crisis led to a crisis along the nation’s southern border, with refugees flooding in along with hordes of orc zealots. The perceived failure in the handling of the crises led to a schism within Umbra, leading to infighting and the eventual splitting of the kingdom into North and South Umbra. North Umbra eventually further fractured when Findalanor broke off from the perceived failing state to establish itself as a mercantile nation, reconciling their differences with South Umbra. With Nittergard now weakened and fractured, the Dathmere Khanates began raiding South Umbra and Findalanor, finding them ripe for plundering and unable to effectively defend themselves. Findalanor eventually abandoned all of their lands west of the river, and formed a defensive pact with North Umbra in exchange for access to their now lucrative maritime trade. South Umbra, with much of its lands open to the plains, found themselves unable to weather the attacks, and eventually the entire state collapsed. North Umbra reclaimed part of the failed state’s lands, but elected to continue calling themselves North Umbra out of tradition. From the remaining lands eventually the new state of Rashemen formed, ambitious and expansionist, looking to reclaim their lost lands and establish themselves as the dominant force in the region.
