Drakestooth

Jagged spires of stone, flecked and striped with a strange, orange-hued mineral, stretch themselves high into the sky, resembling the toothy maw of a drake or dragon. Nestled among these spires rests the large town that takes its name from this odd geological feature: Drakestooth.

Demographics

The mines draw people from all over Estrona and Aseria. As such, Drakestooth consists of a healthy mix of all races and walks of life.

Government

Lord Reginald Tremaine rules here, as his family has since the town's founding.

Defences

Due to the town's mining history, a large surplus of stone and those who know how to work it, and an overall desire to keep their profit margins from the clutches of roving bandits, raiders and their ilk, the town has had a 40 ft stone wall around it throughout most of its history. Ten feet thick at its widest point and constructed at the steepest points of most of the surrounding hills, the wall is a formidable structure that prevents all but the most determined invaders from ever seeing more than a distant view of the spires within.

Infrastructure

Most of the manor houses and upper class living structures are constructed at the base of each of the spires in both the Fangs and The Mandible. The more well-to-do families even own the entirety of a spire, constructing their homes up and around each one, mimicking the glittering spirals of the Glintvein that striate through the massive rock formations. These structures are not limited to living accommodations, however. Some of the more prominent guilds and tradesfolk also construct their storefronts up and around these spires as well, with bridges and arching pathways stretching between the closer structures. The most prominent of these areas is known as Loftmarket, a miles-long platform that connects the pinnacles of the spires of both the Fangs and the Mandible.

Districts

The Coronet
The largest of the northern hills also holds the bases of the largest of the spires. Two massive curving formations extend far into the sky, forming the "horns" of the drake above its maw. This area overlooks the entirety of Drakestooth, and because of this, the lord's manor, known as the Villa Gullion, is located here.   The Fangs
The spires that form the upper "teeth" of Drakestooth are home to the town's upper class. Well-to-do merchants, mining overseers, and other wealthy folk make their home here, along with the lord's council of advisors. Guards are very prevalent here, and few are allowed free reign of the area.   The Mandible
The spires that form the lower "teeth" of Drakestooth are home to the town's middle class. Miners' homes are prevalent here, as they are treated well, being the town's main source of income (though the mines themselves are located in The Maw). Merchants and craftsmen of all kinds may have a shop here, if they have the coin to rise above the masses in the valley below. The higher-priced inns, taverns, and shops are located in The Mandible, for those who have the coin to spend.   The Maw/The Gullet
The valley between the two hills that hold the base of the northern and southern spires is known as The Maw (or sometimes more colloquially as The Gullet). The Imperial Highway passes directly through The Maw, running North to South and forming the main street of the town (known to locals as Imp Street). As such, a large marketplace runs along nearly the valley's entire length. The farther back from Imp Avenue, the poorer and more shady the streets and neighborhoods become. The areas directly in the shadow of either The Fangs or The Jaw are the poorest of all, and rarely see direct sunlight. The only exception to this would be Glintvein Run, which runs perpendicular to Imp Row at the center of The Maw. At either end of Glintvein Street lie the entrances to the north and south mining complexes, where the lifeblood of the city is pulled from the ground.   Loftmarket
High above the Maw and Imp Row below, an enormous construction of platforms, bridges, and high arching pathways stretch between the topmost peaks of the Fangs and the Mandible. This area, known as Loftmarket, is the main shopping district for those looking to (quite literally) rise above the common rabble below. Elevators and lifts ferry people and goods from the Maw below to this lofty thoroughfare, where the more well-to-do merchants, guilds, inns and taverns can be found, their construction winding in, up and around the apex of the spires. No one is prohibited from visiting and/or shopping in Loftmarket, but few who make their homes in the Maw below find themselves with enough coin to do so.
