Minauros

Minauros is the third layer of the Outer Plane of The Nine Hells. It is an endless polluted swamp constantly battered by winds, acid rain, and hail.

Geography

The entire layer is a single stinking bog. The weather is a constant mix of rain and sleet that leaves an oily residue after it melts, followed by razor-sharp hail that falls from a perpetually gray sky. Volcanic ridges made of rock and obsidian can be found in several locations along the swamp, which exudes a luminescent mist that provides some illumination. Temperatures vary enormously throughout the layer. Some areas are cold enough to freeze the bog over, while others boil under intense heat, forming mud geysers.

Notable Locations

The City of Minauros - the largest settlement in the layer and the seat of power of Mammon, Lord of the Third. It is constantly sinking into the swamp, so expeditions of petitioners and slaves are sent periodically to fetch volcanic rock to shore the city up and replace its streets. It is rumored that beneath the city lies the ruins of an ancient city of unknown origin. Jangling Hiter - a city suspended by chains hanging from the bottom of Dis, the second layer. It is ruled by chain devils.
