Lifeblood River

It saved an uncountable amount of lives that day, every one of us, from you to me, and everyone we have ever known or will know. And it's just a normal blue, sometimes deep sometimes shallow, both wide and narrow ribbon shaped river.   It's funny, we have such machines that could render that river gone for all eternity, we use spacefaring vessels that travel light years in seconds everyday, and water will never be an issue again. But even still, we all owe our lives to that river. It's name says everything we ever need to know about it.   Lifeblood River.
- Ashley Harris
Lifeblood River (first known as Horizon River 13) is the 4th largest river on the planet of Horizon with an estimated length of over 6,000 km. It stretches through 2 different planetary regions - Greater Streke and Argail, and flows from the Bohai Mountains, stretching across Harris' Plain, before emptying into the Bayani Sea of the Manowe Ocean.   The river is one of the single most protected locations in the entire Galaxy, owing to its status as an international historical and natural landmark. It also attracts millions of tourists each year, requiring the entire river to be put under the close watch of rangers and other security personnel. It is also patrolled daily by sea hovercraft, and undergoes regular testing to ensure the river and its aquatic inhabitants are healthy at all times.

Name

The name "Lifeblood River", first came into use during the colonisation of the Galaxy of Astraesto by the New Terran Republic, with many early residents of the galaxy believing the river to be the only thing that kept humanity from extinction in Astraesto. During the initial colonisation of Horizon, the river was only known as "Horizon River 13", much like the other rivers of the planet. It was officially renamed Lifeblood River in 101AC.

History

Horizon would become the starting point for Human life in Astraesto. While their true reasons remain a mystery to the denizens of the Galaxy, The Homeland likely choose Horizon for its expansive ecology and ability to sustain large amounts of life without substantial terraforming.

I can see why they want to protect that river given the stories of the first settlers!

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!
