Archos
The Archos, more widely known as the Ancients, were a species of centaur-like arthropods from a bygone era of interstellar and extraplanar conflict known as the Era of Starfire, a time so unimaginably violent and destructive that every single war of our era is merely a blip on the radar in comparison.
Before we dig into the Era of Starfire and what happened after it, let us discuss the origins of the Archos species. The Archos were originally a poorly developed species living on a then-Tomb world, it appeared that they had evolved from the remnants of an older civilization which ended up annihilating itself. Back then, the Archos were a medieval civilization on the brink of a Renaissance, but it is during that time that a certain species of advanced aliens uplifted them to a spacefaring empire. Said species is known as the Centens, mysterious bipedals with curious wormhole-based technologies and with outer-dimensional origins.
Over centuries, the Archos and the Centens worked hand in hand, eventually becoming close to equals, yet remaining parts of a greater whole.
During the Era of Starfire, the Archos were spread out across multiple galaxies within the Virgo Supercluster forming an empire under the guidance of the Centens, known as the Archos Continuum, the latter was constantly at odds with the Hegin Technocracy, an empire which also spanned across many galaxies and one that was a clear rival to the Archos Continuum. Ultimately, a war broke out between the two super-empires which led to the invasion and devastation of a few galaxies, the Milky Way being one of them.
This war continued for a long time until a third party joined the fray from the depths of the Triangulum Galaxy, a being of absolute torment and writhing flesh nicknamed as Carrion Lord by extra-planar beings. The latter spread quickly and had a rather elongated form able to move through the void of space easily, a true cosmic horror. The Carrion Lord became a major concern to both sides of the war, so much so that both super-empires developed sector-killer weapons to protect themselves from impending doom. An arms race was thus started, leading to more turning points of the war.
The war ended in the short-lived pyrrhic victory of the Archos, for the Hegin Technocracy was utterly defeated but the Carrion Lord remained strong and ever-encroaching, thus, the Archos and the Centens came together to create a being capable of holding off the Ruin, a being which would be the peak of both technology and magic. Taking the GodFrame's believed form as inspiration, they tirelessly worked to create the being known to us as the Cultivator .
Beaten and sensing that they had done all they could with their current technology, the Archos followed the Centens back to their universe by using their home galaxy as a gargantuan Astral Ship (See Tennerinth). Subsequently leaving the fate of our universe to the Cultivator, the few Centens in cryosleep as well as the Archos-made AIs.
