Local Guardian Deities
Summary
Guardian Deities are not just powerful beings; they are living embodiments of the land itself, chosen by the very territory they watch over. Their deaths carry immense consequences, causing the land to react in devastating ways, and their connection to the magic of the region grants them unparalleled strength.
Chosen Protectors:
Guardian Deities are not arbitrary rulers but are selected by the land they inhabit. This sacred connection is fundamental to their existence, and their bodies swell with power as they take on the responsibility of safeguarding the region. A Guardian Deity that can act at full power becomes an unstoppable force, capable of repelling all but the most determined and skilled heroes. Their connection to the land grants them an unparalleled mastery over the environment and its magical energies, making them formidable adversaries to any who would challenge them.Aura of Power:
Guardian Deities emit auras of power that signify their connection to the land. These auras are tangible representations of the divine energy they channel, and they can affect both the environment and those who encounter them. The very air around them crackles with the energy of the land they serve.Magic Filtering and Modification:
Guardian Deities play a crucial role in filtering and modifying the latent magic in their territories. They shape the magical essence of the land, making it both a source of power and a potential vulnerability. Intruders hostile to the Guardian Deity risk having their magic stolen or rendered ineffective, making a fully empowered Guardian a formidable force.Historical Basis
The myths of a local Guardian Diety are spread throughout the land, marked upon the stones and hidden in ways that naturally reveal the creature, and it's location, allowing even the most basic of sentients to gradually meet contact with their guardian, and for their guardian to spread it's protection, or dominion amongst them.
The Death of a protector
The land's cry of devastation upon the death of a Guardian Deity is not just symbolic; it has tangible and lasting effects. Areas cloaked in death fog or other magical alterations are the direct consequences of the land mourning the loss of its protector. These alterations serve as both reminders and warnings to those who witness them. The death of a god does not come easily, nor is it's memory quickly forgotten. The Corruption of a God
The is a rare case, where members of a race are somehow able to manifest dominion over their own guardian deity - an almost impossible task as these creatures are near indefatiguable and inexhaustable, the deity becomes enslaved, performing to their whims, although such behavior is often an arrogance which predates a fall.Variations & Mutation
Various races can arise to the level of becoming a guardian deity, this typically favors creatures which naturally scale up to such levels, which - in the continent of Lhamia primarily consists of various draconic or terrasque-esque forms, their scaled bodies existing in a large variety of environments.
The Slave of the Saltieunni
A local deity enslaved to the Saltieunni has been used at the race's whims for rapid and convenient transportation, with it's godly powers, it intercedes in all ways but those that would provoke the local deity into a fight, and risk a battle which could greviously disrupt the lands that the Saltieunni intend to claim.Cultural Reception
Each race has some form of honoring or noting their local guardian diety, in the cases of some, it consists of a steady stream of offering, whether spiritual or physical, in the cases of others - it is worship and prayer, and in some other cases, it is a steady agreement founded by various members of that race, who have promised their loyalty to the diety, and received it's blessing.
