The Everstorm

The Everstorm is an unending, cyclical storm of immense power that annihilates everything in its path. It has three phases: Regression, Stability, and Progression, though each phase is further changed by the season, resulting in a total of 12 possible phases, separated by which season they occurred in. Each phase usually lasts for weeks at a time, however the storm is highly unpredictable.

Regression

This state of the everstorm is when the turbulent winds and forces of the storm are at their weakest. This is also the state when the flora and fauna are at their most wild, for the world of the north lives in stress, those who cannot obtain enough to grow and feed often will not survive out the storm whilst it is in progression, as the terrible winds turn the snow into shrapnel and hail into blades.

Stability

Whilst Progression and Regression represent the growth and shrinking of the everstorm, Stability is a stage in which it's influence no longer changes. This often does not matter to most creatures, as those who are caught by the storm will only notice that the storm has devoured them, or whether it has not. However, for some reason the native intelligences appear to recognzie this as a separate state apart from the others.

Progression

The dangerous state of the everstorm, where turbulent churning winds reach out to devour the world. Senging flora and fauna into states of hibernation, lest they draw the wrath of the storm and find themselves truck out at by the wrathful creatures which haunt the storms, or find themselves ennervated entirely by the frost of the chilling winds. Even for the natives, None are willing to risk the storm directly.

Exposure & Decay

Exposure to the storm is often a matter of a death. it is only through keeping the storm at bay that one can survive, though especial effort and care must be put into the maintenance of oneself and one's equipment to see them preserved against the storm. Each location in the Everstorm is troubled by the radient danger of the everstorm, as the decay grows more dangerous the closer one approaches to it's heart.   Direct exposure to the storm apples decay one per minute, whilst indirect applies it on an hourly cadence, representing the slow degradation of body, equipment and magic over time.
  • For objects and creatures, their maximum hitpoints is lowered by the decay value.
  • for spells, their maximum caster level is reduced by 1/5th the decay value. a castler level of 0 is dispelled.

Fighting against the Storm

Fighting against the storm requires the usage of a Borealis Generator or a similar construct. A device capable of emenating a stabilizing wave of energy, capable of repressing the storm within a certain vicinity at the cost of stored energy harvested by miners who roam through the hexes made safe by adventurers.   Through establishing relays, the borealis generator's reach is expanding, in a synergistic relationship with the adventurers who can progress further through the world. Without the borealis generator, or it's relays, direct exposure to the storm would be unavoidable and they would rapidly fall to the onslaught of the storm.   The Borealis Generator is a behomoth machine that runs on a combination of principles, using jadetech and nuclear energy together, it cracks apart leyline crystals, and then uses the resulting magical essence to output a range of stable magic. Repulsing this energy outwards on a massive scale. Though the energy consumed in the action has the potential to quickly bankrupt a small country. Thus, only one of these machines can currently be sustained at one time.
