Vance Hayes

Simple Version: Vance was first mate to a pirate captain. Ambushed at what they thought was a safe port, the captain and much of the crew were caught; Vance was among those who evaded capture. Left without a captain, a crew, or even a ship, he was forced to turn to other methods to work towards his desire of gold and glory.
