SCP:026 - "Golden Egg"
Item #: SCP-026
Object Class: Euclid, Esoteric
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-026 is currently not installed at any permanent location, instead it is currently in possession by ████. Only authorized personal with security level 4.026 are allowed to fall asleep within 3-5 yards of SCP-026. Personnel wishing to use SCP-026 must request and read the entire transcribed instruction manual in full. Two armed guards are to remain on guard outside of SCP-026's area of effect while in use. In the event of SCP-026b event, all individuals must be awoken as soon as possible, and the guards are to examine the site carefully for any signs of SCP-026c. Misconduct and misuse of SCP-026 will be punished in a manner to be decided by the Chief Researcher on a case-by-case.
Description: SCP-026 when not in use appears as an enlarged, golden Fabergé egg; standing 3 feet in height, and 2 feet in diameter at its widest to 8 inches in diameter at its skinniest. The 'Egg' is covered in various hieroglyphs and bas-reliefs depicting strange alien fauna and flora and landscapes. SCP-026 changes in appearance to reveal the contents of the Fabergé when an individual falls into a deep sleep within 3-5 yards, and not blocked by a solid wall.
When an individual or multiple individuals fall asleep within the appropriate range of SCP-026, it causes and SCP-026b event. An SCP-026b event can be observed by a non-slumbering individual by simply looking at SCP-026 which will have become translucent and occasionally release an intermittent whistle of varying pitches and length, from anywhere between a fraction of a second, to ten seconds. The translucent shell of SCP-026b allows one to see a skull of an average humanoid sized creature of unknown origin. Apart an additional central eye socket located in the forehead, it is fairly human in shape and design. Coming out of the eyes and mouth are roots of color, that stick to the skull, and end in flowers of strange alien colors, but looking like the lotus flower in shape and design. Sometimes one can see small birds flying around the flowers, as if pollinating them, though this is a rare occasion, and it's reason for happening is not fully known at this time. When used for long periods of time, the flowers will begin to emit a dark black pollen draped in shadows, that falls upwards towards the top of the egg, as if unaffected by the pull of gravity. As the pollen gathers and grow, the chance of a SCP-026c manifesting nearby increases at a 01-10% chance with each use.
Those who fall asleep near SCP-026 will eventually come across a staircase leading into a cavern of flame during the course of normal dreaming. This staircase has been written of by mystics and scholars as the Seventy Steps of Lighter Slumber. Descending it will allow a now very lucid dreamer to enter the Cavern of Flame, where one comes across the a large gate, and one if not both, of its keepers, Kaman-Thah and Nasht. From here a dreamer can pass and descend the Seven Hundred Steps of Deeper Slumber and find themselves in the The Enchanted Woods. For more information on the Enchanted Woods and the Dreamlands see attached expedition logs.
SCP-026c is a shadowy octopod-shaped entity with long droopy tentacles that look like space or the void between space, drawing in all light in the area, and has been called the Guardians of Crystallizers of Dreams by mystics. SCP-026c enters our reality and the dreamlands as a hunting pack of 2-5. These Guardians are extremely deadly, and will attempt to take sleeping individuals to their own reality, for what reason is currently unknown. Though it is presumed they take sleepers to feed and consume them. They can be damaged, and while not killed, they can be sent back to their reality, by attacking them in dream or in the 'waking world'.
