Last Stand at Wyrm's Neck

As the Serasian army advanced, Ionis IV, King of the Laconins, gathered 500 of his bravest warriors to fight the approaching Serasian army at Wyrm's Neck, a narrow stretch of land separating Seras from the Marian province.  The battle itself was a suicide mission for the Laconins; the objective was not victory, but delaying the Serasians long enough for the Hadrianic army to link up with the rest of the Laconian forces and counter-attack.   The battle itself lasted three days, with the narrow terrain giving the Laconins the advantage against their Serasian foes, and the surrounding mountains protecting them from Serasian arrows and spells.  Eventually the God-Emperor himself intervened, mobilizing the Serasian army to completely overwhelm the vastly outnumbered Laconins.  King Ionis made his last stand on the third day, heroically sacrificing his life and those of his men to destroy thousands of Serasian soldiers and undead ravagers.     Ionis was successful, the Hadrianic Emperor was able to rally his forces and ultimately push the Serasians back to their lands.  Ionis IV was lauded as a hero, not only of the Laconian people, but of the Hadrianic Empire.    As a side note, a small contingent of paladins from the Order of Krom volunteered to fight by Ionis's side.  Despite the general distrust of any gods other than Bane in Laconin society, the courage and ferocity of Krom's paladins convinced the council of elders that the worship of Krom is compatible  with worship of Bane.  A Laconin sect of the Order of Krom was established shortly after the war, combining the best aspects of Krom and Bane's martial traditions to create frighteningly effective paladins.
