Lethe Argie

Lethe Argie is an adventurer currently allied with the Order of the Doleful Aspect.

Backstory

The son of a dark elf maidservant and a quarter-elven traveling merchant, Lethe was born into the servitude of a Mitican nobleman named Nasos Melakis. Lethe never knew his father, nor did his mother ever speak his name; instead she just referred to him as "her butterfly" after the butterfly-shaped brand on his cheek. As a child, Lethe had a voracious appetite for books and knowledge, and spent every free minute pouring over books in Melakis's library. One day Lethe stumbled across Melakis engaging in a secret dark ritual. He attempted to hide but was discovered, but rather than kill the boy Melakis instead recognized a kindred spirit and took Lethe in as an acolyte. He revealed his obsession with the ancient lich lord Kasius Darkshroud, and began teaching Lethe the dark arts of necromancy.
Lethe trained under for several years until Melakis was outed as a necromancer and arrested. Lethe and Iliana were spared arrest but kicked onto the streets. With no coin to their name, Lethe used what little powers he had mastered to aid him while sneaking back into the Melakis estate where he stole what valuables he could. Most of the noble's tomes had been confiscated but he was able to steal enough materials to continue his own studies for awhile, and from selling the valuables he was able to afford passage to Meicor where he was able to put himself and his mother up in a modest estate for a time.
Over time their money began to run out and the odd jobs both were doing were unable to pay the bills. At the same time, Lethe's mother fell ill and soon died. Angered that he did not have the power to save her and embittered at their destitution, Lethe sold whatever he did not want to take with him and set out into the world, determined to grow in power. Eventually his journeys led him to want to seek out the Eloqui Order, hoping to join and learn from them. In the city of Ömstad, he began asking around for ways to contact them. While meeting a potential contact in an alley behind a tavern, Lethe was ambushed, tied up, and thrown into a prison wagon.
