The Obviation

The Obviation is the name given to the mystical force that dampens arcane energies across the continent of Eigentica. It emanates from the powerful Kaltarohn Obelisk maintained by the Eloqui Order.
In early 1421 IR, the Obviation was established when a group of rebels seized a massive arcaltium obelisk from beneath the Rotterhorn in the opening weeks of Augustin's Rebellion. Originally, it was intended only as a way to weaken the armies of the Aridiean Empire. However as the war ended and the the Empire of Räsgard was established, general public distrust of the arcane coupled with the inarguable power advantage of maintaining control over magical use led Emperor Petros I to order the Obviation to be maintained indefinitely. The Eloqui Order, at that point a group of sages and mystics in the Midlands, was officially decreed the sole legal practitioners of magic, and were tasked with maintenance of the obelisk.
