Session 1 Report
General Summary
The party arrives in the small village of Fallwood and find it eerily quiet. The place shows signs of recent trouble-- buildings damaged and shoddily repaired, villagers hiding in their homes, and any that are out and about are unwilling to engage with strangers.
After a tense misunderstanding with one such villager, the tavernkeep Donny O'Hoolihan, involving a broken window and an armed standoff, the situation is explained: Fallwood was recently raided by a band of goblins. O'Hoolihan blames the attack as an effect of the recent political strife in the kingdom of Ostren: the king was found dead, which has threatened civil war in the country. Troop movements and other actions related to the conflict have pushed monsters out of their usual locations. In this case, this band of goblins, led by a hobgoblin commander, tore through town a few days ago, took all the food and supplies they could carry, kidnapped O'Hoolihan's wife as ransom, and now lie in wait somewhere in the nearby forest to ambush the upcoming supply wagon to the village.
O'Hoolihan tasks the party with rescuing his wife and dispatching of the goblins. Two adventurers had come through a day prior and taken on the job as well, but O'Hoolihan is not picky and will reward 50g to whichever group does it first. After a round of drinks, the party departs for the forest, tracking the horse prints that the two adventurers left.
After hours of searching, the party found where the tracks led: two dead horses and the entrance to a dark cave. Inside the cave, they found the two adventurers as well: one was impaled at the bottom of a spike pit, the other a bloody mess torn apart by goblin blades. With the noise attracted by the group's attempts to safely cross the spike trap, goblins quickly set upon them.
A fight ensued and the party dispatched four goblins-- seemingly all that were present in the cave. They set to freeing the woman bound by the goblin's campfire and recuperating from the fight...
