Session 13 Report

General Summary

With the Marianne offering no more information on the whereabouts of Brennon's son, the party heads to the Magpie, wary of a possible confrontation. They are met again by the surly Basco, who is skeptical that they are back for business. Basco is stopped by the captain of the ship, the goliath Korak (son of Korak, of the tribe Korak). Korak greets the party jovially, though his demeanor is undercut by a sense of danger from the large man. He says if they are here for business, they are more than welcome, and leads them downstairs.   He offers them dillweed, a smoked substance that is very popular with his guests. Lephnut buys a bit while Big Richard attempts to see if there is anything that could be used to incapacitate a man-- thinking of a possible encounter with the impostors. After some negotiating, Korak sells Big Richard a vial of dolgrin extract, which he cautions is not a recreational drug but a form of poison: a light dose will incapacitate a man, a full dose is liable to kill him outright. Korak tries to sell the party on some bloodsand, which he claims is taken from the shores of the Isle of Blood where a god was killed and can induce revelatory visions, but the outrageous price has the party rebuff him.   The party plays at doing more business, even taking a few puffs of dillweed to keep up the facade, before broaching the subject of Ayden. It becomes clear that Korak does not want to address the topic, and when pressed, Korak threatens them not to pursue it further. He says if they must, claim that Ayden slipped on the docks and drowned, his body lost at sea. They will receive no more from him. Taking into account at least a dozen other crewmen aboard, the party decides it best not to pick a fight here and decide to leave, knowing at least that Korak has some information on Ayden's whereabouts, if not directly responsible for his disappearance.   After a long day, they head back to the Innocent Doe for rest. Big Richard asks Anissa about atheism and other topics. Anissa implies a previous relationship and some knowledge of the Marianne.   After waking, they head back to Brennon's shop. Big Richard briefly pursues his side goal of buying an instrument before finding from the store clerk that they don't stock those. The party relays what they've learned to Brennon, who surmises that Ayden is definitely dead and that Korak had some hand in it. Determining that if Ayden cannot be returned alive, then he must he at least avenged, Brennon asks the party if they are willing to fight for him. With a reward promised and some sense of righteousness, the party agrees, though they are uncertain of how to approach the fight. Brennon says that Captain Tides of the Marianne has a long-standing blood feud with Korak and may be willing to lend her crew's aid. He mentions that he has a past with some of the crews here and writes a letter to the captain that may help sway her to their cause.   With letter in hand, the party departs for the Marianne...
